Apprenticing with a Problem
Apprenticing with a Problem (AwP) is a term the Skoll Centre borrowed from Jessamyn Shams-Lau, CEO of the Peery Foundation, and refers to learning about a social/environmental problem firsthand from those who have lived it or done significant work to address it.
The Canadian Apprenticing with a Problem grant allows MTS student teams to build on and explore the gaps, levers of change, and missed opportunities identified in their Map the System challenge research.
The MTS Campus Winners from 2026 can apply for up to $2,000 per team to develop a social impact research project that furthered their Map the System research. Projects have taken many forms over the years, including but not limited to: community engagement projects, unpaid internship subsidies, multi-stakeholder projects, and documentaries.
